The Turkish training market:

With a population of over 75 million, Turkey is clearly the largest pie in Develor’s portfolio. Most of the multinational and domestic companies choose Istanbul as headquarters. Istanbul with about 20 million people has a size of economy three times larger than that of Hungary.

The average GDP growth rate over the last five years (2002-2007) was 7,4% which makes Turkey one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Looking at the main sectors, industrial and service sectors make up 23,7% and 64,5% whereas the agricultural sector accounts only for 11,8 %. In detail, construction, automotive, electronics, textile, finance and tourism are among the leading sectors.

Recently, Turkey has become one of the most attractive countries for foreign investment. In 2007, foreign direct investment (FDI) was USD 21.9 billion which is expected to reach even higher numbers in the following years. This increase is derived from strong and stable growth as well as the structural changes in banking, retail and telecommunication sectors.

66,5 % of the Turkish population is between ages of 15-64 which makes the labour market severely competitive. However, the ratio of the qualified workforce is not yet reaching the desired level. Thus, on the other hand, companies facing a difficulty to find qualified (and loyal) employees to succeed against their competitors. These two basic facts are actually the reasons why training and consultancy services are so much welcomed both by employers and employees; and why the training sector is succeeding a very fast growth in Turkey.

The Turkish training market is very fragmented, as for training companies of the three different types can be observed:

  1. A loose formation of trainers and consultants usually with a solid scientific and theoretic background organized by and around a University professor. Their business is developed mainly through former students. Respondents in our market research praise the theoretic approach of these organizations; however, they also claim that the content has very little connection to their participant’s real life challenges and are rarely linked to business objectives.
  2. A loose formation of experienced professionals, who are happy to share their work experience with their clients, and indeed are very successful in doing so. Participants value their practical approach and pragmatism; however, they lack the consistency in executing the same training programs on a second occasion.
  3. The majority of the outsourced training markets is covered by free-lancers, who either search directly for their own customers or team-up with the abovementioned organizations on a large-scale project

Into this market pattern comes Develor, with its proven quality control consistency, exclusive second generation trainers, and proven practical high quality training products in more than five business segments.
